The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society's 25th Anniversary Celebration
The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society celebrates their twenty-fifth consecutive season of affordable classical music in the Philadelphia area.
PHILADELPHIA, PA, March 09, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On Wednesday, March 9th at 7:30 pm at the Perelman Theater, the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society (PCMS) will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special concert and reception. The concert will feature works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Schumann performed by some of our most celebrated artists - including pianist Emanuel Ax, violist Robert Diaz, violist Michael Tree, cellist Peter Wiley, clarinetist Anthony McGill, mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford, and the Tokyo String Quartet.
The concert celebrates the past 25 years of concerts in Philadelphia, having just witnessed its 1,000 concert (in January), commissioned its 45th new composition, and set new records for annual attendance - all while maintaining its policy of affordable ticket pricing ($23 dollars for every seat in the house) and balancing its budget for the 25th consecutive season.
In celebration of the 25th Anniversary, The Philadelphia Inquirer ran an editorial on Saturday, February 26th to honor PCMS. Titled, "Hitting All the Notes," the column applauded the Society for having the "right formula for success" to "have polished the society into a gem that would be prized in any city, large or small." They ended by remarking that "there's no better time to elevate the chamber society's profile than during this notable anniversary season."
