Charla J. Carey Named to Exclusive Membership Organization
Charla J. Carey is affiliated with the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Choral Directors Association and the Organization of American Kodály Educators

LAKE JACKSON, TX, August 30, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charla J. Carey, Choir Teacher at the Brazosport Independent School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in music education.

With 27 years of field experience, Ms. Carey has spent 17 years at the Brazosport Independent School District. In her position, she is responsible for teaching music education to five choir classes of sixth-grade middle school students.

Ms. Carey has taught music education for a variety of inner city, rural, and suburban school districts. She has also played the cello with the Petersburg, Virginia community orchestra, directed the primary children's choir of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church of Lake Jackson for many years, and sings with the adult choir. Currently, Ms. Carey directs two children's choruses in the Lake Jackson community and her choirs have been featured guests with the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra subscription series. She also teaches private piano. Ms. Carey attributes her success to the support she received from her parents and from several outstanding teachers through public education, collegiate training, and studies at the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music in Kecskemet, Hungary. Her recent continuing education includes a piano pedagogy course taught by Dr. Faina Bryanskaya of the Longy School of Music, Boston, MA.

Honored with a Teacher of the Year Award for Music, Ms. Carey received a Bachelor's Degree from Miami University in Oxford, OH. She also earned a diploma from the Kodály Center of America, Newton, MA. She is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Choral Directors Association, the Organization of American Kodály Educators, and St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. Ms. Carey supports United Way of America, Habitat for Humanity, the Women's Shelter of Brazoria County, and the USO.
